A.I. Automatic Flash Welding Machines are designed for high speed operation in continuous process lines. Designs of flash welding machinies are available to meet today's requirements for mainline computer controlled process lines with automatic strip sensing and alignment, coil end preparation by shearing mechanism in the weld gap and automatic weld upset trimming.

The flash welding process produces a high strength fully forged joint. In general the efficiency of the joint is 100% of the parent metal in the fully annealed condition.

SERVO WELD CONTROL SYSTEM with pressure and current feedback for precision control of the welding cycle for higher quality and more consistent welding.

MACHINE SEQUENCING by Fully Programmable Logic Control for increased reliability in operation.

ALL HYDRAULIC OPERATION with full system protection by continuous filtration system.

EXIT AND ENTRY WELD CLAMPS using multiple cylinders to ensure equal distribution of clamping forces.

EXIT AND ENTRY DIE HOLDER ASSEMBLIES complete with current carrying dies and "heeling" dies, with quick changeover mechanisms.

EXIT AND ENTRY STRIP CENTRING GUIDES to centre the strip as close as possible to the Welder dies.

SUPPORT ROLLS are provided throughout the machine to prevent damage to machine faces during strip passage.

INTEGRAL STRIP SHEAR is included to square strip ends after clamping. The type of shear used is dependent on the machine capacity and material composition. The shear may operate in the weld gap or adjacent to the weld area.

DIE CLEANER UNIT operating in the weld gap to remove flash from vertical die surfaces.

LATERAL DIE ADJUSTMENT to accurately match strip edges in weld gap.

VERTICAL DIE ADJUSTMENT to compensate for uneven die wear or welding of unequal strip thickness.

CROSS CUT FLASH TRIMMER to remove weld upset metal immediately after completion of weld. Trimmer may operate in weld gap or adjacent to the weld area, depending on machine design.

STRIP TRANSFER TABLES to position weld joint at trimmer or optional notching and hole punch stations.

  • Strip Edge Notcher to remove segments from the front and rear edges of the weld where following strips of greater width than the leading strip are welded. The notcher will remove the right angle projections at 35 degrees from the normal, to facilitate processing without snagging.

  • Hole Punch for Weld Identification.

  • Standby Hydraulic Pump and Motor.

  • Standby Welding Control.

  • Weld Parameter Storage and Recall for fast selection of Weld Programme

  • Fully Automatic Machine set-up. Control from Mainline Computer.

  • Scrap Removal from Shear, Notcher and Hole Punch.

  • Closed Circuit Cooling System.

Current range of machines can accommodate strip programmes in the following sizes:-

Width : ................... 50mm to 2500mm
Thickness : ............. 0.5mm to 12.5mm

Consult factory for Machine selection to suit individual strip programmes.

Coil/Strip joining in the following process lines:-

  • Pickle Lines
  • Cold Reduction Mills
  • Coil Preparation Lines
  • Tube Mills
  • Pipe Mills
  • Coil Build-up Lines
